Sam Mitchell is not a pitch man.

Those Ford ads by Mitchell are inspiring. I’m going to buy one.
What makes me laugh about them is how low-budget they are, and how high-budget most Ford ads usually are. How exactly did this ad come to exist? Who was the creative director who approved this gem? “No, no, basketball fans don’t respond to commercials that are well-produced and have, you know, a budget…what they really want is something shot with my handycam! And they don’t want to see an athlete they admire pitch the car to them! C’mon, that’s crazy! Someone unknown? No, that’s even worse! A reputable actor? No, then the ad wouldn’t feel awkward. Let’s select a person whose judgment and on-the-job performance is continuously questioned and ridiculed by his peers and observers! That’s a Ford man!” Sounds like a reasonable line of thinking.
