Eastern Promises is a horrible movie.

OK, just got past the half way point. It’s getting better, I suppose. Viggo’s acting is getting better. But I can’t figure out why this movie was ever made. Who wrote this script? (Apparently some guy named Steve Knight, who hadn’t done much before this, and whose next script gone into production is Shutter Island starring Leo.) I suspect there’s a reason (or many of them) that it wasn’t picked up by a Hollywood studio, but, if it was, I can only imagine that it would have turned out better than it has.
Also, I’ve gotta say that the excessive bloodletting doesn’t add anything to the story and just makes the movie more difficult to watch. I mean, if this is what a talented team produces, does it mean that all my stuff will be worse than this? Cuz, honestly, it wouldn’t be worth filmmaking if it was.

OK, it’s getting a bit better. But man, what a slow start. And I imagine I’d understand more if I could get the subtitles to work.

OK, now it’s good.

Oh Jesus, just got to the fight scene. Oh sweet lord it’s bloody. Definitely more entertaining, though.
Not sure he deserved a Best Actor nom, but it makes more sense, now.

Oh, hey, this Steve Knight guy’s good. I kinda wish I had subtitles. The direction’s still not great, though. Naomi Watts deserves better. A lot better.

B, I guess. Certainly not as good as Juno
