Uh-oh. Problems in paradise (“paradise,” for the purposes of this blog post only, refers to Toronto…please don’t read into it, Torontonians).

So, thanks to Caldeford, I learned about TJ’s meeting with Sam Mitchell and Mark Eversley, the club’s director of basketball operations, before their win over Miami the other night.

Not looking good. Not looking good at all.

Listen, TJ’s great. In the same way water’s great. Too little or too much and you’ll die. Too cold or too hot and you’ll get hurt. You need a healthy dose of it. In sweet moderation. Same with TJ. But the club is clearly, clearly, clearly better with Jose running the point. And not running the point as in splitting minutes with TJ 50/50, or sharing time with TJ at off-guard. But running the point as in playing 30-35 minutes of solid time at the 1. I never cringe when Calderon has the ball. I don’t worry about his shot selection, about him being careless with the ball, or about the motivation and wisdom behind the on-court decisions he makes. Whenever TJ has the ball I’m balled up with fear. To be honest, it’s the same feeling I had when Mike James was running the point. TJ’s better than Mike James, obviously, but he has that same “OK, now it’s my turn,” attitude – and it scares the bejesus out of us (“us” refers to anyone watching the game…even fans of the other team).

I don’t know, maybe keeping TJ can work out some how, but I don’t see how it can. And by the way, I’d rather keep TJ than trade him for Marion or Curry or Haslem. We need better attitudes, not worse ones. Still, I hope trusty BC has a master plan. Cuz this could get ugly. And right now is really not the best time for that.
