HBO sets up Americatown
September 30th, 2008 | Arts, Television | Comment »I appreciate that shows like Gossip Girl and the new 90210 are “needed,” but a part of me wishes that every network was run like HBO. This, from a MovieWeb article:
HBO will delve into a future where Americans become exiles. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cable network is developing [Americatown], from writer Bradford Winters.
The project, which Winters has been developing for over a decade, revolves around a future America where it has gotten so bad that people are starting to take up exile in a foreign country, with many arriving in a newly-built city, to house these American nationals.
“By presenting Americans as immigrants in the near future, as both underdog and hero in the drama of global dislocation, we substitute a mirror for the rancor that informs much of the partisan debates on immigration,” Winters said.
