Most overrated dunk of all time?
May 14th, 2008 | Basketball, Sports | Comment »The thing with Lebron James’ dunk over Kevin Garnett in Game 4 of the conference semifinals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics is this: it wasn’t that big a deal.
Now, maybe if you were watching the game live, and you took the amount of time remaining, the gameflow to that point, the Celtics defense, and Lebron’s struggles into account, maybe then the dunk was meaningful and impressive.
But absent those elements, the play looked at on its own is nothing worth replaying. This was no MJ on Ewing, or KJ on Hakeem, or Starks on Chicago. It was just a simple dunk after finding an open lane and avoiding contact. Yippie.
Now, granted, I didn’t get to experience the aforementioned elements because the game wasn’t broadcast in Canada. You know, because wrestling was on. So maybe I’m unimpressed out of spite.
But I doubt that.
