The Nash Effect: D’Antoni gets $6 million a year to coach Knicks
May 10th, 2008 | Basketball, Sports | 1 Comment »Mike D’Antoni has accepted an offer to coach the New York Knicks, according to a media reports.
The former Phoenix Suns coach, who was also sought by the Chicago Bulls, has accepted a four-year, $24 million deal to take over the Knicks, according to reports by Sports Illustrated and The Boston Globe, both citing a league source.
Has anyone in the history of the NBA made more money for the people who’ve worked with him than Steve Nash?
- Bryan Colangelo gets $9 million from Toronto
- Marc Iavaroni gets $5 million from Memphis
- Mike D’Antoni gets $24 million from New York
- Joe Johnson gets $70 from Atlanta
- Quentin Richardson gets $42.6 million from Phoenix
- Boris Diaw gets $45 million from Phoenix
Would any of these people enjoy the financial security they now have if they hadn’t been associated with Nash’s brilliance? It’s easy to look good when Captain Canada is running things, and it tends to inflate your worth. Just ask Shawn Marion.
