State government “pouring” money into researching mass honeybee deaths

CNN has a scary article reporting the loss of 36.1% of the American honeybee population in the last year, after last year’s loss of 32%, a clearly unsustainable trend that could ravage the economy and the nation’s food supplies even further (as we learned from Jerry Seinfeld’s Bee Movie). Not to worry, though, the Pennsylvania government is on top of it:

On Tuesday, Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff announced that the state would pour an additional $20,400 into research at Pennsylvania State University looking for the causes of CCD [colony collapse disorder, a mysterious disease that causes adult bees to abandon their hives]. This raises emergency funds dedicated to investigating the disease to $86,000.

And you were worried! Please. These guys have all the resources in the world available to them that $20,400 can buy. A part-time secretary, for example.

In a related story, Pennsylvania is sending 8 loaves of bread to Burma to assist cyclone victims.
