Wild Hogs. Really? Yeah, really.
March 31st, 2008 | Arts, Film | Comment »So I still had Wild Hogs on my computer and I wanted to clear up the space and I didn’t want to have deleted it without watching it so I watched it. And it was good. Laugh-out-loud good. I think a few things made it, in many ways, actually better than Dan in Real Life.
- It was waaay better directed. Walt Becker of Van Wilder fame was the man responsible. Good on him.
- I wasn’t expecting a realistic story, so I never felt cheated. It was a fun romp. Yeah, I said it.
- Here, too, like Dan in Real Life, a lot of the subtext and character motivation was made obvious, but for some reason it felt more acceptable than it did in DIRL. I’m not sure I can explain why. Maybe it’s because I was expecting DIRL to be an “intellectual” movie, and it let me down, whereas I had no such expectations for Wild Hogs.
All in all, I understand why it made $168m domestically, and I can see its obvious appeal to the 30-65 demographic (that’s a major one, I hear). Can’t wait for the sequel.
