Dropbox…The next Google?
March 17th, 2008 | Social | Comment »There are so many things in this that make me think that it’s a fake, or that it’s an elaborate prank. But let’s pretend for the time-being that it’s real. In that case, it’s pretty damn cool, and pretty damn useful. But a couple obvious downers are the fact that you have to install something on your desktops, and that if you want to back up gigs of data, the bottleneck is going to be upload speed. So for just regular old office documents, yeah, huge deal. The one tech thing about this that’s really cool is only uploading the portions of files that have changed, greatly reducing bandwidth. The one tech thing that’s really scary is that you can revert to any previous version of an uploaded file, meaning that nothing is ever deleted. Priiiivacyyyy?
